The Beautiful Tufted Settee
Do you have a piece of furniture that you love, but it just doesn’t work in your house? That is what this settee became. It’s a gorgeous bench, for which I always got compliments. However, the only seating in the sitting room was this bench and 1 lone chair, giving a spot to only 3 lucky people. The other issue was that you couldn’t stretch out to take a coveted nap. Or if you did, you woke up irritated at how uncomfortable of a spot you chose to lay!
On a whim one morning, I put it up for sale for the same price I bought it for 2 years ago & had it gone by 4pm. Suddenly, I had some jingle in my pocket & an empty canvas!
How many of you love Costco? Our local store is about 1.5 miles away & we frequent there about 1-2 times/week. I’ve never seen furniture there I liked… until recently. This set was gorgeous, felt well made, and looked like it would create the sitting room we desired. Since I’m an excellent salesperson, both to my husband and to my Dad (XOXO), we came home with a sofa, armchair, and ottoman.
At first, I was worried that the room would feel too cramped. But after having the furniture for several days now, we LOVE it!
Shop Your House
I found various decor around my house & switched things up a bit. Isn’t that the best?? The tray on the ottoman is from Pottery Barn Outlet ($17 !), and I switched the mirror that was in here before with the one in the dining room. The rug & curtains stayed the same but I’m liking how they go with the new furniture. Do my lamps look crooked to you? Well, they are! I found them on clearance 2 years ago at Lowe’s for $9 each! I do think I’ve gotten my money’s worth, but will just deal with them for now until the budget allows.
My new chair is perfect for morning quiet time!
The view from the kitchen is stunning!
Don’t Be That Couch
Bottom line, don’t hold on to the things that just don’t work anymore. Andy Stanley did a leadership talk with this title a while back, referring to church programs & leadership. However, this can totally apply to physical furniture in this instance! Is there a piece of furniture in your house that just doesn’t work anymore & you need to get rid of?
Not to change the direction of this post too much, but perhaps there is something that you’re doing in life that simply doesn’t work anymore & you need to let it go! Just because you like it or you’ve always done it doesn’t mean it still functions or is worthwhile. Something to think about…
