For all you fathers out there attempting to navigate parenting differently than the example you were given, this is for you.
Thank you for changing diapers and for getting up to care for a newborn in the middle of the night, even when you work a full time job. Thank you for the physical care you give your children. Thank you for attempting to read to your kids at night. Thank you for cleaning up the kitchen. Thank you for helping with chores around the house.Thank you for bathing & dressing all the rascals, and not losing your mind when half the bath water is dumped on the floor.
Thank you for being thrilled to take them to the store with you, even if you could have had alone time. Thank you for walking in the door each day happy to see everyone. You take off your work hat & put on your Dad hat and barely skip a beat. This is why your children run outside screaming when you car pulls in the driveway. Thank you for working around the house during the weekend, even if you’ve worked a 60 hour week and just want to nap or watch TV.
Thank you for snuggling with your kids at night, making sure each one gets enough attention. Thank you for smothering them with kisses & affection, even when they resist! Thank you for lighting up at the sight of your children. Thank you for nurturing their young souls. You answer their questions about God, Jesus, & the Holy Spirit. You show them about loving Jesus, not just being a rule follower. You praise Jesus in front of them, showing them how to love their Savior.
You Recognize Your Identity
You may not have had an example of someone who knew their true identity in Christ. Yet, you are choosing to live differently, pushing aside the lies that you could believe. Your children will view their heavenly Father through the lens of their earthly Father: full of love, grace, kindness, gentleness, and forgiveness.
I am so grateful for you, Dads. May you seize the opportunity to be the earthly example of our Father in heaven.
Your reward on earth will be your offspring, and in heaven, a crown of righteousness.
