I recently updated our girls’ room with just a few changes that have made a huge difference!
As we update our house, I have to wait to work on certain rooms. Some rooms need more than just paint, or require major projects to be completed before little decorating changes can be made. We have 4 bedrooms, but the downstairs room serves as the guest room/office/playroom. (See that update here!) Our sweet girls share a room, which works great! I love that they giggle & play together, even though 3 1/2 years separate them in age.
This is the wall color of their room before:
You can see the cream on the walls, which is what covered every single wall in our house when we moved in. Each of the girls have had the same bedding since they were 2 (which is when I started my kids in a big bed). The sheets were getting very worn & thin, and the stuffing of the comforters was lumping up. The other issue is that the girls wanted purple walls, which I wasn’t ready to commit to, knowing that they will be older in just a few short years and that a purple wall might look too young.
Choosing a Paint Color
In a recent Better Homes & Gardens magazine issue, one of the paint color suggestions was Benjamin Moore Heaven. It caught my eye as a perfect blend of a gray with purple undertones. Also, it is sophisticated enough to last the girls through the pre-teen years.
I looked all over the internet & in stores, trying to find bedding without spending an outrageous amount of money. I almost bought a bedding set at Target, but still wasn’t sure that it was just what we were looking for. Finally, we went to the closest Pottery Barn Outlet to see what deals we could find. That day, they were having a big sale on kids bedding. Score! We chose the Lara print in lavender, which is the perfect light purple to coordinate with BM Heaven! We purchased the duvet covers, lavender polka dot sheets, and pillow shams. All of this times 2 was $125, including tax!! I thought it was a great deal & they LOVE their new bedding.
